Indianapolis
Indianapolis is situated in the Central Till Plains region of the United States. Two natural waterways dissect the city: the White River, and Fall Creek. The city of Indianapolis was established not by settlers but by proclamation when Indiana was granted statehood in 1816.
The name Indianapolis is a combination of Indiana plus the Greek word polis for city. Four square miles were allotted for the city, but an area of only one square mile was plotted as it seemed inconceivable that the capital would ever be any larger.
The Wholesale District helped transform Indianapolis from a small town to big city, it became the place for buying goods. Thanks to Union Station, merchants were able to ship goods in a timely matter.
