Detroit
In 1701 Antoine de La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac, landed on the banks of Le Détroit Du Lac Erie (The Strait of Lake Erie) and established Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit. Since then Detroit has served as one of the great manufacturing hubs of the United States. Detroit’s location on the Great Lakes has helped Detroit to flourish as the gateway to America’s interior.
Detroit is set on the Detroit River; the metropolitan area includes the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, and the west end of Lake Erie. Detroit is filled with cultural, historical and entertainment attractions and is known for its sports stadiums. Most of all Detroit is known as The Motor City simply because it is the automotive manufacturing capital of the world.
