Omaha
Omaha was founded in 1854 and is located on the Missouri River. Omaha was first inhabited by native American Indian tribes and in 1804 Meriwether Lewis and William Clark explored the area after the Louisiana Purchase.
In 1812, Manuel Lisa established a fur-trading post in the area. During the west migration, Mormons established the first non-Native settlement known as Cutler’s Park from 1846 until 1848.
The Kansas-Nebraska Act on May 30, 1854, the land west of the Missouri River opened to settlement which resulted in an influx of settlers. Omaha was officially incorporated by the state legislature on February 2, 1857.
