Columbus
Columbus is situated in Central Ohio, Columbus is located on the Scioto and Olentangy rivers; two minor streams running through the city. The city was first laid out in 1812 and incorporated in 1816. Columbus was chosen as the capital Ohio because of its central location and access to navigable rivers.
Columbus hosted a number of legal and medical institutions. In addition to hospitals and medical colleges, Columbus had the largest insane asylum in the world, with approximately 1,300 patients.
By the mid 1800’s Columbus saw an increase in industrial development in manufacturing shoes, tools, machinery, furniture, carriages, and brooms. The Columbus campus consists of nearly 400 permanent buildings on 1,644 acres of land.
