Seattle

Seattle, WashingtonSeattle lies on a narrow strip of land between the salt waters of Puget Sound and the fresh waters of Lake Washington. In the fall of 1851, two brothers, Arthur and David Denny, landed at Alki Point on the west side of Elliot Bay. Soon after their arrival they moved to the eastern shores where they established the small settlement that would become Seattle.
The name Seattle is believed to derive from the Duwamish Indian leader named Sealth. Initially the primary industry in Seattle was lumber and booming cities such as San Francisco provided much of the demand that kept Seattle on the map.

Washington

Washington became a U.S. state on November 11, 1889 as the 42nd state. The state’s coastal location and excellent harbors give it a trade advantage with Alaska, Canada, and countries of the Pacific Rim. The region was part of Oregon Territory from 1848 to 1853, after which it was separated from Oregon and established as Washington Territory.

During World War II, the Puget Sound area became a center for war production, the Boeing Company producing many of the nation’s aviation equipment and ports in Seattle, Bremerton, Vancouver, and Tacoma available for the manufacturing of ships.
